Description

My name is Kaitlyn Marquardt, and I go to Rockingham County High School; I am raising funds to purchase another AED for my school’s sports teams when traveling. The fundraiser is important to me because my brother suffers from a heart condition: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Because of his heart condition, his athletic career was cut short, which prevents him from playing sports unless an AED is present on-site with him at all times. Unfortunately, AEDs are incredibly expensive and unattainable for many families with kids with heart disease. Student-athletes with diagnosed or undiagnosed heart conditions are more vulnerable to sudden cardiac arrest. Therefore, another AED is crucial because there is no guarantee that an AED will be nearby in an emergency.
