Description
Jacob received his first gift of a transplanted heart on 4/10/21
On 2/22/24 he went in to cardiac arrest while home alone. Andrew (Dad) Did 7 long minutes of CPR before the medics arrived and worked on him for nearly an hour to get him back and stable enough to transport to the ED, then life flighted to Stanford.
*Did you know only 2% of outside of the hospital cardiac arrests survive?! For transplanted hearts that have cardiac arrest… they don’t survive.
On 2/23 he had another cardiac arrest while in the CVICU where he required another hour of CPR and was put on ECMO life support.
One 2/29 he received the gift of life again, and had his second heart transplant.
This heart experienced primary graft dysfunction and he was put back on life support for a week. After being taken off life support he had a large R MCA stroke on 3/5, that left half his body paralyzed.
We finally came home in late June and is doing extensive therapies to regain strength and movement.
Jacob’s primary cardiac condition, Dilated Cardiomyopathy, is genetic. Andrew (Dad) and one sibling have the same condition.
We know the importance of access to an AED- it can be the difference between life and death. We would like to have one in our home, and we would take it with us when we travel too.
Thank you for your help!!
