My name is Elizabeth Thomasson. I am the school nurse at Greenwood Middle School in Wayne County, North Carolina. I would love to secure an AED for our school’s gym. The AED would also travel with our student athletes and staff to away sports events. The AED would be the property of Greenwood Middle School. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is 60% more likely to occur during exercise or sports activity, so athletes are at greater risk. SCA is also the leading cause of death on school campuses. I believe our school athletics program needs an AED to provide our students, staff, and community with the best possible health outcomes.
